Vaivai Trail

SFS are developing a number of trails across Samoa, including here at the Vaivai Peak, the highest point on Upolu (1158m or 3799 feet). See map below.

Beautiful and rare cloud forest is your reward for getting here at the peak of Upolu. There are numerous birds here and many rare and threatened plants. Listen for the wailing call of the Ma’oma’o (Forest Honeyeater) that frequents this forest and notice all the ferns and mosses in this wet forest. The metal survey or trig point marks the peak of Mt Vaivai, and the highest point on Upolu. The views from the trail may be better than the views from the peak itself. Return the way you came. A 500m detour up the 4WD track to the peak of Mt Le Pu’e is worth doing for the views on your return (refer to the map). For more information on our trails please purchase our book: “Hiking Samoa: Volume 1 Upolu” (2024) available at the SFS offices.
